French practice guide
French verb conjugation exercises
French conjugation practice should begin with the verbs that hold sentences together: etre, avoir, aller, faire, venir, pouvoir, vouloir and dire.
Exercise 1: core irregular verbs
Drill etre and avoir first because they appear as main verbs and as auxiliaries. Then add aller and faire, which appear constantly in everyday questions and instructions.
Exercise 2: subject endings
When a form is wrong, check the subject before checking the verb. Many mistakes come from mixing je, tu, il/elle and ils/elles endings.
Exercise 3: repeat missed forms
Do not only count correct answers. Save the forms that felt slow, then repeat them in the next session before adding new verbs.
